CERTIFICATE PROGRAMME IN ENTERPRISE MANAGEMENT A SIMULATION BASED APPROACH
Preamble
This simulation-based course will employ the Marketplace Live simulation as a learning environment. The exercise isa transformational experience. Students will learn what it’s like to compete in the fast-paced, competitive market where customers are demanding, and the competition is working hard to take away your business. In Marketplace Live, you start up and run your own company, struggling with business fundamentals and the interplay between marketing, human resources, operations, finance, and accounting. You are given control of a simulated business, and must manage its operations through several decision cycles. Repeatedly, you must analyse the situation, plan a business strategy to improve it, and then execute that strategy out into the future. You face great uncertainty from the outside environment and from your own decisions. Incrementally, you learn to skilfully adjust your strategy as you discover the nature of your real-life decisions, including the available options, linkages to other parts of the business, conflicts, trade-offs, and potential outcomes. To add to the challenge, you are confronted with an international market in constant flux. Market potential will rise and fall on local and worldwide economic and political conditions and your venture will be challenged by fluctuating exchange rates and tariffs between regions.
Objective of the Course:
The overall objective of this course is to develop your professional business skills through computer simulation. The goal of the simulation exercise is to develop your management skills by giving you an integrated perspective of the entire business operation. More specifically, the course aims to:
- Â Develop strategic planning and execution skills within a rapidly changing environment.
- Crystallize the linkages between business decisions and financial performance.
- Experience the challenges and rewards of the entrepreneur by starting up and running a new business venture.
Learning OutcomesAt the end of the course, participants will be able to: - Analyse market research data and accordingly design brands to appeal to different market segments and roll out a marketing campaign.
- Allocate scarce funds to R&D, manufacturing, quality, advertising, and distribution.
- Schedule production and manage plant capacity; initiate quality production programs.
- Manage cash and negotiate equity & debt financing for new business development
- Compete head-to-head with other business teams and adjust strategy & tactics in response to financial performance, competitive tactics, and customer needs.Team Effort
You will team up with three or four other participants to form an entrepreneurial firm that will compete in a ‘business strategy game’. As you tackle the simulation, you will take your fledgling business through the natural stages of business growth, including emergence, development, and maturity. Along the way, you will learn to develop and refine your strategies and tactics.TIME: SUNDAYS 8:00 PM TO 10:00 PM IST
